Viv Greene

Attorney & Notary
BSocSci LLB (UKZN)

viv@vglaw.co.za

Viv is originally from St Annes-on-sea, Lancashire in the UK. St Annes is a small seaside town in the north West of England not far from the Lake District. She left school at the age of 16 and not having a clue what she wanted to do, went straight to work at the Head Office of a local life insurance company. She became interested in pursuing a legal career when a car accident, for which she was under insured, left her fighting an insurance company to get paid out what she was due. A student lawyer assisted her and gave her caselaw to quote in corresponding with the insurer which persuaded them to settle her claim without going to court.

At this point “pursuing a legal career” meant becoming a legal assistant or legal secretary, at best, as becoming a lawyer would require a degree which no one in her family had got.

She decided to go to night school whilst working to further her studies but the law module was fully subscribed. Her friend persuaded her to do Maths instead!

She obtained her maths A Level and shortly and around this time met her husband Chris (a South African) who also worked at the insurance company.

They married in 1996 and moved to South Africa a month later. It was in SA that Viv first believed she could attempt her degree as no one would know if she failed.

She completed a BSocSci followed by an LLB at the University of KZN, Pietermaritzburg.

Viv loves music and seeing bands and artists live in concert. She also loves the theatre and movies as well as good British dramas and comedies. Seeing Les Mis in London’s West End in 2017 was an experience she will never forget.  Reading is also a passion and some of her top books of all time are A Thousand Splendid Sons, Untamed and The Seven Sisters series. Walking, Crossfit and Yoga are firm favourites when trying to destress at the end of a busy day. Travelling is also a passion and a recent trip to Positano, Italy was a definite highlight. She also travels to the UK regularly to catch up with her family and friends.

Viv has two children, and finds parenting one of the most rewarding and challenging aspects of her life!
